The 2022 Old Vines Cabernet Sauvignon is a distinguished expression of Coonawarra’s famed terroir, crafted from select fruit harvested from vines planted in the 1970s and 1980s. Grown on shallow terra rossa soils in the Neilson’s Block and Wilgha vineyards, these older vines impart remarkable depth, concentration, and character.

A hallmark of the 2022 vintage, warm sunny days paired with cool nights allowed for even ripening, resulting in vibrant fruit intensity and exceptional colour. Carefully handled in the winery and matured in French oak (20% new), this Cabernet delivers a wine of structure, elegance, and layered complexity. Rich, refined, and expressive, the 2022 Old Vines Cabernet Sauvignon showcases the power and finesse of mature Coonawarra vines, offering a compelling wine with both presence and grace on the palate.

Colour: Vibrant scarlet

Nose: Cassis and red berries with spice and chocolate

Palate: Rich berry compote flavours dominate the wine. Subtle tannins provide balance whilst the lingering Cedar and spice add an elegant finish

95 points Sam Kim, WineOrbit, May 2023.

"A magnificent rendition, the wine shows dark fruit intensity, fennel, tobacco, violet, and stylish oak aromas on the nose. The concentrated palate exhibits terrific depth and richly textured mouthfeel, backed by refined texture and fine-grained tannins. Wonderfully harmonious and robust with a great line and length. At its best: now to 2039."

94 points Ken Gargett, Wine Pilot, Aug 2025.

"The fruit here is selected from vineyards at the cooler southern end of Coonawarra, which is where the Estate has its Nielsen’s and Wilgha Vineyards. Maturation is in French oak.
An opaque maroon hue, aromas of tobacco leaves, chocolate, blackcurrants, cloves, mint and graphite weave effortlessly along with good oak integration. The wine has balance, focus and intensity with a line of very good acidity. Its excellent length leads to sleek tannins. For enjoying over the next twelve to fifteen years."

91 points Halliday Wine Companion, May 2023.

"Violets and strong potpourri florals. Blackberry compote and boysenberry jam. Chocolate and coffee grinds with vanilla and leather polish. Big and bold wine with significant oak and richness of alcohol. A wine designed for cellaring and the long haul. Needs time."
