CENTRAL RANGES
The Central Ranges is fast becoming one of Australia’s most exciting wine regions, encompassing the areas of Mudgee, Orange, and Cowra. Nestled along the slopes of the Great Dividing Range and west of the Blue Mountains, this region is celebrated for its ability to craft both elegant red and white wine styles. The cool climate in the east lends itself to refined, fresh wines, while the flatter, warmer west produces juicy, vibrant reds. Though still gaining recognition, the Central Ranges is just a short trip from Sydney and Canberra, making it an easy escape to experience some of the country's finest emerging wines.
CLARE VALLEY
The Clare Valley is renowned as Australia’s premier Riesling region, producing world-class examples of this variety with vibrant citrus, floral notes, and crisp acidity. Often seen as a benchmark for quality, Clare Valley Rieslings can age gracefully for decades. While Riesling reigns supreme, the valley’s moderate-continental climate and varied vineyard elevations also yield exceptional red wines, with Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon offering intense flavours and deep colour. This historic and picturesque region boasts a rich winemaking tradition dating back to the early 19th century, with boutique wineries crafting premium wines that reflect the region's diverse soils and conditions.
HUNTER VALLEY
The Hunter Valley, Australia’s oldest wine region, seamlessly blends its rich winemaking heritage with modern flair. Nestled at the foothills of the Brokenback Range, just two hours from Sydney, this picturesque region is renowned for its iconic Semillon, Chardonnay, and food-friendly Shiraz. The warm climate, tempered by sea breezes from the Pacific Ocean, combines with the region’s ancient seabed soils to create ideal conditions for cultivating high-quality grapes. The Hunter Valley continues to define its legacy with daring new approaches to winemaking, making it a cornerstone of Australian wine culture.
GREAT SOUTHERN
Great Southern is the largest wine region in Australia, known for its diverse subregions and cool-climate styles. Despite being overshadowed by its famous neighbour, Margaret River, it is quickly gaining recognition for producing premium wines like Shiraz, Riesling, and Chardonnay. The region’s vast landscapes, from forested cliffs to fertile vineyards, create varied growing conditions across its five subregions—Albany, Denmark, Frankland River, Mount Barker, and Poronguru —each contributing its own distinctive wine styles. With its Mediterranean-like climate, moderated by the Southern Ocean, Great Southern is emerging as a powerhouse for quality Australian wines.
EDEN VALLEY
Eden Valley, part of the Barossa zone in South Australia, is a cool-climate wine region known for its elevated vineyards that benefit from the rolling hills of the Barossa Ranges. This altitude results in a longer growing season, allowing for intensely flavoured, premium wines. Renowned for its exceptional Riesling, Eden Valley rivals Clare Valley, producing wines with vibrant lime, apple, and floral notes that develop complexity over time. Shiraz also thrives here, with Eden Valley’s cooler climate yielding wines that balance ripe black fruit with smooth tannins.
FRANKLAND RIVER
Frankland River, one of Western Australia’s best-kept secrets in the Great Southern region, is increasingly gaining recognition for its award winning wine styles. This cool climate region with elevated vineyards is celebrated for its fresh Riesling and peppery Shiraz. The area’s rich bushland, vibrant wildflowers, and lush farmlands enhance its natural beauty, while the diverse range of grapes including standout Cabernet Sauvignon and emerging Sauvignon Blanc—showcase the region's versatility. With almost 1,600 hectares of vines and a reputation for quality, Frankland River is swiftly making its mark on the Australian wine scene.
