This Pinot Noir is a relaxed, easy-drinking expression of Central Otago, sourced from parcels grown across the region's distinctive terraces. It's a wine built for approachability: soft, light-footed, and made to be poured without ceremony.
A blend of multiple hand-picked parcels, fermented with indigenous yeast, with a portion of whole-bunch fruit adding subtle spice and texture beneath the surface. Time spent maturing in seasoned oak has rounded out the wine without weighing it down, preserving its lifted, fruit-driven character.
On the palate, bright red fruits sit at the core, giving an overall impression of lightness, fruitiness, and balance. It's quaffable and delicious, the kind of Pinot that suits everyday drinking as easily as it does the table. Best enjoyed from 2024 through 2030, and a natural match for a stone-grilled pizza with prosciutto, rocket, and buffalo mozzarella.
Colour: Bright ruby red with a vibrant crimson hue.
Nose: A pristine, aromatic bouquet of fresh dark-skinned cherry and wild forest berries, complemented by subtle dried herbs, savoury mineral notes and gentle spice. Fine oak and lees complexity add depth and nuance.
Palate: Lightly weighted yet flavourful, with red berry, raspberry, strawberry and cherry flavours flowing across the palate. Fine, chalky tannins provide texture and structure, balanced by a bright, contrasting line of acidity. Notes of rose, fine lees, spice and soft oak add complexity to a refined, elegant finish.
Food Pairing: Stone grilled pizza with prosciutto, rocket and buffalo mozzarella.
Carrick 'Unravelled' Pinot Noir 2022, Central Otago
"Pristine bouquet of ripeness and variety. Aromas of fresh dark skinned cherry and wild forest berries, there’s a light dried herb quality giving rise to the idea of savoury mineral qualities. A fine chalky tannin texture coated in red berry fruit flavours touches the palate first, contrasting acid line then flavours of raspberry and strawberry, cherry, rose and fine lees complexity emerge. A lovely example of variety, fruit and style in a gently lighter weighted expression with some spice and soft oak complexity. Well made and ready to drink from mid to late 2025 through 2030+."
