BackVintage’s most popular wine for a reason! McLaren Vale Shiraz, handcrafted by Mike Farmilo – a man responsible for several vintages of Penfolds Grange.

Minimum purchase any 12 bottles sitewide.

McLaren Vale, just south of Adelaide, is one of Australia’s premier wine regions, renowned for its bold Shiraz and diverse microclimates. The 2021 vintage was exceptional, showcasing the region’s Mediterranean climate, where warm days and cooling ocean breezes from the Gulf St Vincent create ideal conditions for premium red wines.

The 2021 BackVintage Block 8 Shiraz was crafted by legendary winemaker Mike Farmilo, who has been responsible for several vintages of the iconic Penfolds Grange. Handpicked at night to preserve freshness, the grapes were gently destemmed and fermented under temperature control. Following malolactic fermentation, the wine spent up to 18 months in French oak, imparting structure and complexity. On the palate, rich dark fruits and chocolate are complemented by fine tannins, while subtle oak notes of vanilla and mint elevate the nose. Perfect for pairing with red meat or char-grilled vegetables, this Shiraz can be enjoyed now or cellared beyond 2028 to develop further.

A rich, full-bodied Shiraz with impressive depth and structure.

Colour: Deep red with a ruby edge.

Nose: Aromas of dark berries and plums, complemented by hints of vanilla and a touch of mint from French oak.

Palate: Bold and generous, featuring rich dark fruit flavours with a touch of chocolate. Fine, plentiful tannins provide structure and balance, leading to a long, satisfying finish.

Food Pairing: Perfect with flavoursome red meat dishes or char-grilled vegetables. Enjoy now or cellar beyond 2028 for added complexity.
